Conjunction — Astrology glossary
A conjunction is an aspect in which two planets sit at almost the same point in the chart, within a few degrees of each other. It is the most intense aspect because the planets effectively merge, blending their qualities into a single combined force. Astrologers read a conjunction as two functions that cannot easily be separated, for better or worse, depending on the planets involved. It matters because it concentrates two planetary functions at one spot in the chart, often producing a marked personality feature. For example, a person with the Sun conjunct Mercury, which is extremely common since Mercury never strays far from the Sun, tends to identify strongly with their own thinking and speech, often blurring the line between who they are and what they think.
