Mutual reception — Astrology glossary
Mutual reception occurs when two planets each occupy the sign the other rules, as when Mars sits in Libra while Venus sits in Aries. In a natal chart it creates a supportive link between the two planets, as if each lends strength to the other by being a welcome guest in the other's home. It matters because it can soften a placement that would otherwise look weak, since a planet in an awkward sign still has an ally working on its behalf. For example, the Mars-Venus example above can ease tension between drive and affection. Astrologers treat mutual reception as a quiet but real support, sometimes strong enough to act almost as if the two planets could swap places.
