Cazimi — Astrology glossary

A planet is cazimi when it sits at the exact heart of the Sun, traditionally within about 17 arcminutes of an exact conjunction. The word comes from an Arabic term meaning in the heart. In a natal chart a cazimi planet is treated as exceptionally strong and clarified, as if protected at the centre of the Sun rather than burned by it. It matters because it is the opposite of combustion: where a combust planet is overwhelmed, a cazimi planet is empowered and purified. For example, a cazimi Mercury can give unusually sharp, focused thinking that feels central to who the person is. Astrologers regard cazimi as rare, given how tight the orb must be, and read it as a notable mark of strength.
