Fall (debility) — Astrology glossary

Fall, a form of debility, is the condition of a planet occupying the sign opposite its exaltation, where it is considered weakened and unable to express its qualities with confidence or strength. Because it sits across the zodiac from the place it is most honoured, the planet operates at a disadvantage, often appearing diminished or undermined. The assignments mirror the exaltations: the Sun is in fall in Libra, the Moon in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer, Venus in Virgo, and Jupiter in Capricorn. Fall is one of the essential debilities, the counterpart to exaltation. In a natal chart, a planet in fall marks a function that struggles to find solid footing and may feel undervalued or out of place. For example, Mars in fall in Cancer finds direct action difficult, since its assertive drive is filtered through Cancer's protective, indirect, emotionally cautious instincts.
