Out of bounds — Astrology glossary

A planet is out of bounds when its declination, its distance north or south of the celestial equator, exceeds the Sun's maximum of about 23.5 degrees. In a natal chart an out-of-bounds planet is read as operating outside normal limits, expressing its function in ways that ignore convention or run to extremes. It matters because the planet behaves as though off the leash, capable of unusual brilliance or unusual difficulty depending on how it is handled. For example, an out-of-bounds Moon can give emotions that swing beyond ordinary range, deeply felt and hard for others to predict. Astrologers note this condition is common in the charts of innovators and outliers, where the willingness to break rules becomes a defining feature.
