Rising sign — Astrology glossary
The rising sign is another name for the Ascendant: the zodiac sign that was rising over the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. The two terms are interchangeable. Because the horizon moves through all twelve signs roughly every twenty-four hours, the rising sign changes about every two hours, so an accurate birth time is essential. Astrologers read it as the social mask or first impression, the manner a person leads with before deeper traits show. It matters because it shapes how the rest of the chart is delivered to the world. For example, two siblings born the same week share a Sun sign but, born at different times of day, may have different rising signs, so one comes across as brisk and the other as gentle despite similar core natures.
