Yod — Astrology glossary
A yod is a chart pattern where two planets in a sextile both form quincunxes, or 150-degree aspects, to a third planet, creating a narrow triangle sometimes called the finger of fate. In a natal chart it marks a point of awkward adjustment: the apex planet never settles comfortably and pushes a person toward a specialised, sometimes uneasy focus. It matters because the quincunx joins signs with nothing in common, so the pattern demands constant fine-tuning rather than smooth integration. For example, a yod pointing at Mercury can give a person whose way of thinking feels off-step with others until they find its particular use. Astrologers often link yods to a sense of being directed toward something specific that takes years to understand.
