Angular house — Astrology glossary
Angular houses are the four houses that begin at the chart's main angles: the first (Ascendant), fourth (IC), seventh (Descendant), and tenth (Midheaven). They mark the horizon and meridian, the most structurally important points in a chart. Astrologers consider planets in angular houses especially prominent and active, more likely to express forcefully in a person's life than planets tucked into quieter houses. It matters because placement near an angle can amplify a planet's effect regardless of its sign. For example, a person with Jupiter in an angular house such as the first or tenth often experiences its themes of expansion, optimism, and opportunity as a defining, visible feature of their life, whereas the same Jupiter in a non-angular house tends to work more quietly in the background.
