Astrological house — Astrology glossary

An astrological house is one of twelve segments dividing the chart, each tied to an area of life such as identity, money, communication, home, or career. The houses are anchored to the horizon and the time of birth, so they rotate independently of the zodiac signs. Astrologers read a planet's house to see where in daily life its qualities play out, while the sign on the house shows the style of that area. It matters because the same planet behaves very differently depending on the house it lands in. For example, the planet Venus, which governs affection and pleasure, expresses through romance and beauty in the fifth house but through shared finances and intimacy in the eighth, even though Venus itself is unchanged.
