Intercepted sign — Astrology glossary
An intercepted sign is a zodiac sign fully contained within a single house, with neither of its boundaries falling on a house cusp. It occurs in quadrant systems such as Placidus, especially at higher latitudes where houses become very unequal in size, so one large house swallows an entire thirty-degree sign while the sign before and after each appear on two cusps. The phenomenon always comes in pairs, with the opposite sign intercepted in the opposite house. It matters because an intercepted sign, and any planet inside it, is often read as a theme that feels harder to access or express, as though shut away from the chart's main flow. For example, Gemini intercepted in the third house may describe communication skills that are present but slow to surface.
