Transit — Astrology glossary

A transit is the movement of a planet in the current sky and the angle it forms to a planet or point in someone's natal chart. Unlike the fixed birth chart, transits are ongoing, showing where the planets are right now relative to where they were at birth. They are the main tool astrologers use for timing, since each contact is read as activating the natal placement it touches. In practice, transits matter because they translate a static chart into a moving forecast. For example, when transiting Saturn forms a hard angle to someone's natal Sun, the period is typically read as a demanding test of identity and responsibility, lasting roughly while Saturn holds that angle, often several months given its slow motion and retrograde passes.
