Vertex — Astrology glossary

The Vertex is a sensitive point where the ecliptic crosses the prime vertical, usually falling on the western side of the chart. It is sometimes called a secondary descendant. In a natal chart it is associated with fated encounters and turning points that seem to arrive from outside a person's own planning. It matters because, unlike placements describing inner traits, the Vertex is read through people and events that show up at decisive moments. For example, the Vertex in the seventh house can coincide with a relationship that reshapes someone's direction in a way they did not engineer. Astrologers activate it mainly through transits and contacts with other charts, treating it as a marker of meaningful timing rather than daily temperament.
